FEATURED PRODUCT: HUMAN UROMODULIN ELISA
Uromodulin (Tamm-Horsfall protein) is the most abundant protein excreted in
urine under physiological conditions. It is exclusively produced in the kidney
and secreted into the urine via proteolytic cleavage. It has a protective role
against urinary tract infections and renal stone formation. Mutations in the
gene encoding uromodulin lead to rare autosomal dominant diseases, collectively
referred to as uromodulin-associated kidney diseases. They are characterized by
progressive tubulointerstitial damage, impaired urinary concentrating ability,
hyperuricemia, renal cysts, and progressive renal failure. Recently, genome-wide
association studies identified uromodulin as a risk factor for chronic kidney
disease (CKD) and hypertension, and suggested that the level of uromodulin in
urine could represent a useful biomarker for the development of CKD. Serum
uromodulin determination exhibited superior characteristics required for a
nephropathy marker that might be used for screening purposes. Using the cut-off
125.4 ng/ml it has a unique clinical sensitivity of 92.1% and specificity of
100.0%. BioVendor’s patent for the use of the serum uromodulin determination
for the diagnosis of nephropathy is pending.
The Human Uromodulin ELISA kit is a sandwich ELISA intended for the
quantitative determination of uromodulin in human urine, serum and plasma
samples.

FEATURED PRODUCT: GLUCAGON-LIKE PEPTIDE-1 RECEPTOR
The Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) was originally discovered from
rat pancreatic islet cDNA. The GLP-1 receptor has also been cloned from human
tissues including brain, lung, GI tract and heart. Hybridization studies have
localized the human GLP-1R to 6p21. GLP-1 is an incretin hormone with
antidiabetic action through its ability to stimulate insulin secretion, increase
beta cell neogenesis, inhibit beta cell apoptosis, inhibit glucagon secretion,
delay gastric emptying and induce satiety. It has therefore been explored as a
novel treatment of type 2 diabetes. GLP-1 can improve contractility and
glucose uptake in myocardiocytes and may protect against ischemic apoptosis in
myocardial infarction. GLP-1 also has been found to improve endothelial
function in patients with type 2 diabetes.

FEATURED PRODUCTS: ANTI-HUMAN OMENTIN, RABBIT AND SHEEP ANTIBODIES
Omentin (Intelectin-1, Intestinal lactoferin receptor, Endothelial lectin
HL-1, Galactofuranosebinding lectin) is newly identified secretory protein that
is highly and selectively expressed in visceral adipose tissue but not
subcutaneous adipose tissue (adipokine). Omentin-1 was shown to be the major
circulating isoform in human plasma. Lean subjects had significantly higher
omentin-1 plasma levels than obese and overweight subjects. Plasma
omentin-1 levels were inversely correlated with BMI, waist circumference,
leptin levels, and insulin resistance as measured by homeostasis model
assessment and positively correlated with adiponectin and HDL levels. In
summary, decreased omentin-1 levels are associated with increasing obesity and
insulin resistance.
The antibodies have been obtained from rabbits or sheep, respectively,
immunized with a recombinant human omentin protein produced in E.coli. The
antibodies have been immunoaffinity purified using the immunization antigen.
